Counting Birds on Global Big Day - Pampas del Heath, Peru
I photographed bird expert, Yohamir Casanca Leon, counting birds in Bahuaja-Sonene National Park on the Global Big Day, May 4, 2019, in a remote savanna area on the border of Peru and Bolivia that boasts 28 endemic species. I created a photo essay to tell the story of what it takes to carry out a Global Big Day (the world’s largest international bird count) in a secluded corner of the Amazon rainforest and find species found nowhere else.
